LAHORE - In continuation of his diatribe against the PPP-led government at the Centre, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that his party had jumped into the field to steer the country out of crises as Zardari and his cronies were looting the country. While addressing workers convention in Lahore, which also attended by Provincial Ministers, Members National and Provincial Assembly, the chief minister said that October 28 rally was not a political programme, but an effort to save Pakistan and transform it in accordance with the ideals of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal. He said that Zardari and his cronies were looting the country and Ali Baba and 40 thieves had also joined them for their vested interests and plundering. He said that time had come to purge the country of hypocrisy and corruption and make it an Islamic welfare state by following the Islamic teachings. He said Mian Nawaz Sharif was the only leader who could put the country on the road to progress and prosperity by bringing it out of crises. Shahbaz alleged that federal government had set new records of corruption and every day, new scams of corruption and stories of destructions of institutions come to surface. He said that corruption had ruined the profitable institutions like PIA, Railways and Steel Mills. The worst loadshedding has plunged the country in darkness, wheel of industries has come to halt, the poor have been deprived of their livelihood and economy has been ruined, he added. Shahbaz said that corruption was the main reason of loadshedding. He said that vast reserves of coal were available in Punjab, Balochistan and Sindh through which energy could be generated and lakhs of people were provided jobs but it was not suited to federal government. He said that federal government instead of paying attention to the generation of energy from coal, got commission from the projects of rental power and plunged the people in darkness. He said had a strategy for generating energy adopted during the last three and a half years, the darkness would not have been our fate. He said that 900 megawatt power plants of Nandipur and Chichoki Maliyan were not started due to greed and corruption and now additional expenses of Rs. 18 billion will have to be borne. The PML-N leader said: Now people have decided to change the system and get rid of corrupt government. It is not a political decision but is a matter of survival of the country. The CM said that those societies did not survive where justice not prevails. The chief minister quoted Hazrat Ali (RA) as saying that the system based on infidelity (Kufr) may function but the system based on injustice hard to function. Today, decisions of judiciary are being ridiculed and every person of the society will have to play his role for supremacy of justice and just distribution of resources, he observed, adding if we did not play our role today, then the coming generations would never forgive us.
