LAHORE - Attorney General Sardar Latif Khan Khosa Friday underlined the threat to the territorial integrity of Pakistan in the tribal areas as one of the several daunting challenges, which the PPP government was facing. He was speaking at an Iftar reception of the People's Lawyers Forum (Lahore High Court Bar) president Mian Jehangir hosted in the honour of him and Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer at a local hotel. Senator M Zafar, the PPP-backed candidate for presidential slot of the Supreme Court Bar Association, was also invited. PPP supporters, mostly lawyers, kept chanting slogans of 'Jiye Bhutto' and BB terey khoon sey inqilab aiye ga' throughout the function. He condemned General (retired) Pervez Musharraf for what he called indiscriminate killing of Baloch brethren and their detention in the garb of missing persons. He said the war in Wana, Waziristan, Swat and the NWFP also posed a considerable risk to the country. He said when President Asif Ali Zardari said long live Pakistan he meant that he was ready to remove all these ills including price-hike, unemployment and inflation. He asked the lawyers' community to unite in backing Senator M Zafar in supporting him for the presidential slot of the Supreme Court Bar Association. Making a reference to Ali Ahmad Kurd, whose candidature for the presidential slot of the SCBA has been announced by Aitzaz Ahsan, Khosa said: "Would you chose a professional lawyer or a person who seldom went to courtrooms and a master in the art of exploitative politics."   Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer said his political rivals were so uncomfortable with him that they did not see anything beyond the governor. "They started wailing and crying the day I took oath of the office. I have even given them a handkerchief to wipe their tears clean but they refused to come out of it," the governor added. He added the PPP's success could be gauged by the fact that the president, prime minister and the Punjab governor were associated with it. He said the PPP has accepted numerous challenges and shall succeed in removing them and making the country a comfortable place for an ordinary man. PLF president Mian Jehangir on the occasion said President Asif Ali Zardari and the PPP were busy in uprooting the remnants of dictatorship from the country. He said the Punjab Governor has made a lot of sacrifices for the cause of democracy and would succeed in ensuring the rule of law, supremacy of Constitution and independence of judiciary. He praised the PLF for its role in removing dictatorship from the country. Abid Saqi advocate said the PPP was a party, which gave its blood for the promotion of democracy, rule of law and supremacy of constitution in the country. He said the sacrifice of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the assassination of Benazir Bhutto provided ample proof that they believed in democracy alone.
