KARACHI - Banking network set up in Asia’s biggest cattle market at Sohrab Goth, Super Highway has helped significantly increase the selling and purchasing of the sacrificial animals. Financial transactions of around Rs5 million were made in just one day reflecting usage of banking operations by the masses at the mandi.

The administrator Rana Imran said that we were committed that all types of banking operations including collection of funds, disbursement of funds, specific requirements through ATM and banking branches should be available round the clock. We have done many arrangements to ensure smooth operations of banks, which included uninterrupted power supply and fully functional ATMs, while banking staff at mandi is also helping in this regard.

He also added that we know that ATM and online transactions are the modern tools necessary for any market in the world and this is why the surge in financial transactions at the mandi has taken place. This trend also shows the satisfaction and peace of mind of the people who were afraid to carry cash every time.

Moreover, a bank has also launched prepaid Qurbani card, a financial product for the masses, and people are using it to make payments ranging from Rs50,000 to Rs250,000. He said to facilitate people; Habib Metro Bank has opened its branches at the Mandi and set up its ATM network.

Administrator Rana Imran further said that we have learnt many lessons from the past experience and this time we have done additional arrangements as millions of people will be coming to the Mandi to buy animals and a number of facilities have been added and established at the Mandi so that people can easily shop around without any fear or difficulty.

Besides this, he added, the administration is providing free parking to all non-commercial vehicles to facilitate customers and visitors, while extensive security arrangements have been made with a security firm handling the internal security of the mandi and special teams of police and Rangers are patrolling the nearby areas.

He said that famous cattle farms namely Sindh Dairy Farms, Dilpasand, Afridi Cattle, Surti Cattle, Haji Allah Rakha Cattle Farms and many other renowned farms are present at the Mandi.

Last year, more than two million people visited Asia’s biggest cattle market at Sohrab Goth, Super Highway in just last week before Eid ul Azha and purchased around 250,000 sacrificial animals including cows, camels, sheep and goats. Apart from this right from the day one of this market thousands of people visited mandi with families.
