ISLAMABAD - World Bank Country Director Rachid Benmessoud paid a farewell call on Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar here Saturday.

The finance minister shared with Rachid Benmessoud plans for bilateral meetings with the top US leadership as well as his participation in the annual meeting of World Bank and IMF.

Dar and the World Bank country director had discussion on various sectors in which World Bank had assisted Pakistan. Benmessoud lauded finance minister’s keen interest in economic reforms and said these had markedly improved Pakistan’s credit rating and increased funding by development partners.

The minister appreciated Benmessoud’s active role in promoting World Bank’s assistance for development projects in Pakistan. He said services of Rachid Benmessoud for facilitating World Bank funding for economic development in Pakistan would always be remembered. He wished Benmessoud all successes in his future assignments.

The country director of World Bank said he was grateful for the cooperation he received in undertaking his assignment in Pakistan. “Even when I leave to take up my new assignment, I would love to do anything I can for the welfare of Pakistan”, Rachid Benmessoud remarked.

FINANCE, IT MINISTERS BRIEFED ABOUT E-FILING ISSUES

APP: Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, along with Minister for Information Technology, Anusha Rehman Khan chaired a high level meeting at the FBR Saturday to ascertain the position regarding filing of e-returns. SAPM on Revenue Haroon Akhtar was also present.

The Minister the other day had called the meeting, summoning the Member IT, FBR/Chief Executive PRAL and other IT related officials to discuss difficulties faced by the regular and prospective e-filers and look into their complaints.

Member IT briefed the Finance Minister about the system in place for filing e-returns. She stated that the system was under strain due to a large number of filers frequenting it and measures were being taken to ease the situation.

The Minister gave instructions that it was obligation of the IT officials of FBR/PRAL to resolve the difficulties faced by the tax payers. He asked for a regular update on the e-filing issue. It was decided that M/o IT & Telecom would provide assistance to FBR to ensure better IT and e-filing service to the public.

The Minister also emphasized efforts to achieve the revenue targets set for the fiscal year 2015-16.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Finance and FBR attended the meeting.
