ISLAMABAD  - The government has expedited the process of next generation auction to meet its target to hold the auction in March this year and for the purpose has started meetings with the stakeholders to share its point of view and let them share theirs before the auction process starts.

The government is committed to auction next generation mobile technology in next month of March and have big expectations of financial gains from this auction. It has already budgeted an amount of $1.2 billion as an expected gain from aforementioned auction.

To meet the targets of expected financial gains, the government has a realisation that provided the auction cannot be arranged till March then it might not be possible for it to earn that amount in the current financial year.

Presently the consultant hired by PTA is working on the Information Memorandum that is a key document to be prepared before the auction. The other day Finance Ministry held a meeting with the consultant and asked about the developments on the project that he informed the officials that IM will be ready within a week or so to be presented to the stakeholders.

Finance Ministry held another meeting of the CEOs of the mobile companies operating in Pakistan with the Spectrum Auction Committee under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar at the Finance Ministry.

The operators shared their views and gave valuable feedback regarding introduction of latest technologies in relation to forthcoming spectrum auction. Relying upon the commitment made by the consultant, committee informed the operators that Information Memorandum (IM) will be issued shortly.

Information memorandum is a document in which all the operators are interested to obtain as soon as possible because they have to make their strategy depending upon that document. IM will narrate the strategy and rules adopted by the government for the auction of next generation mobile technology spectrum.
