The Government College Mirpur has launched four-year Bachelor of Subject (BS) programme at its main campus to produce quality future architects. The step has been taken in light of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) polices to promote quality higher education

This was disclosed by Govt College Mirpur Principal Dr Muhammad Arif Khan while briefing newsmen on prime objectives of the programme. He was flanked by his associates including heads and academicians of various faculties including Prof Abdul Sittar Khokher and others.

Dr Arif continued that the present management decided to take various revolutionary steps to restore credibility of this historic educational institution through the dispensation of quality education. He pointed out that in the light of the HEC's education policy, every college in the country including AJK will be bound to introduce the four-year BS program by the year 2016. Elaborating, Dr Arif said that after completion of FA, FSc level studies, the aspirants would be eligible to get admission in the four-year Bachelor of Subject degree program to be held under semester system. He told that English, Islamic Studies, Pakistan Studies and Mathematics will be the compulsory subjects under the programme. He revealed that the subjects of Mass Communications (journalism) and Sociology will also be added in the general subjects to be got studied under the BS program in the college.

He observed that the step for introduction of the subjects of mass communications and Social Sciences were taken in view of the rapidly-increased importance of both of the subjects in the current era. Other subjects to be offered under the B.S degree program included political science, economics, biology, physics, bio technology, chemistry and computer studies, he pointed out.
