The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has taken initiative to support and facilitate the Higher Education Departments of all the provinces for the development of Minimum Quality Standards (MQS) for affiliated colleges of universities with the objective to maintain quality of education in the colleges.

The HEC in collaboration with World Bank and Higher Education Departments of the provinces has developed the MQS for these colleges covering major areas including Academic Programme, Students, Academic Staff/Faculty, Governance & Admission, Research and Capacity Building of Academic /Administrative Staff of colleges.

In the first phase to build the capacity of the principals selected on the basis of evaluation reports of the teams constituted to survey the colleges under MQS, the HEC arranged a five-day training workshop at the HEC Regional Centers for all the provinces at Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi and Quetta from May 20, 2013 to May 24, 2013 simultaneously.

A joint opening session of the training workshops in all the provinces was inaugurated by Prof Mukhtar Ahmed, Executive Director HEC from Islamabad via video link on Monday. He highlighted the objectives of the training and said that it was need of the hour to take such steps to uplift the standards of higher education in the colleges as well.

He emphasized that the participants should take maximum benefit from the training workshop.

He briefed about the programme and highlighted the importance of different training modules including Strategic Management, Planning & Development, Communication Skills, ICT Skills Information Technology, Financial Management & Auditing.
