Jamaat-e-Islami leader Hussain Mehanti has expressed gratitude to the party workers, supporters and sympathisers for their support in connection with staging successful sit-ins against rigging.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Mehanti said the JI workers’ sit-ins had proved that the party workers were determined to stand against the undemocratic tactics.

He said the situation created on May 11 was not new for the JI workers and its leadership. However, the JI leadership had decided to boycott the electoral process in the larger interest of the people and prevailing law and order situation.

“The decision of boycott was taken after consultation at party level and the situation created after elections has proved the decision of the JI leadership was correct, as almost all political parties have termed the general elections a sheer drama,” he added.

The JI Karachi chief hoped that the party workers, supporters and sympathisers would continue their efforts for the progress of the movement without getting disappointed.
