Muttahida Qaumi Movement staged a protest demonstration outside the  Karachi Press Club here on Monday.

MQM workers and supporters, including women and children gathered at the KPC to protest against Imran Khan’s alleging MQM chief Altaf Hussain responsible for the Zahra Shahid murder.

The participants were holding placards and banners inscribed with various slogans.

Addressing the gathering, MQM deputy convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that PTI internal conflicts led to Zahra Shahid Hussain’s murder.

He said that Zahra Shahid was the daughter ofKarachiand MQM would also probe the murder of slain PTI leader. He further added Imran Khan leveled murder allegations against MQM before the investigation was initiated.

MQM leader Dr Sagheer Ahmed said that Imran Khan had hurt the sentiments of millions of followers of Altaf Hussain and take back his statement with apology. MQM leader Waseem Aftab said that Imran Khan has turned the Karachi into combat zone by showing his immature political approach in holding MQM chief responsible for the murder of PTI’s women leader. He further added that those making allegations against Altaf want to get cheap publicity.

He condemned the assassination of the PTI leaders and demanded a retraction from Imran Khan from its statement on immediate basis. Later the protesters dispersed after five hours of protest.

In wake of Monday’s protest call by the two political parties, police closed all the roads leading to Sindh Governor House by placing barricades in the Red Zone while police and rangers personnel were also deployed for the security in the surrounding areas of the KPC.

A late night report said that MQM chief has welcomes Nawaz Sharif’s address in Lahore in which he spoke about peace across the country.

Agencies add: Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan arrived in Karachi to attend the soyem of party’s slain leader Zahra Shahid Hussain on Monday.

Talking to reporters at Jinnah airport Aleem Khan said that that PTI leaders and workers were getting threats over their sit-ins and protests.

She said Imran Khan held the British government responsible for the threats issued to PTI in Karachi, adding that the British government has also contacted him. She said that it was really hard to stop the people once they have decided not to get frightened by the threats.

To a question, she said that Khan did not receive any defamation notice from MQM.

Aleema Khan expressed grief and sorrow with the mother and daughters of Zahra Shahid at the soyem of slain PTI leader. She said that Khan was deeply concern over the assassination of Zahra Shahid and he would visit Karachi after his recovery.
