Pakistan Muslim League-Functional Chief and spiritual leader of Hurs, Sibgatullah Shah Rashdi Pir Pagara has again extended support for Shah Mehmood Qureshi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in re-polling on 43 polling stations of NA-230 Thar and four polling stations of NA-229 Umerkot scheduled on June 1.

After complaints of irregularities and setting four polling stations on fire of NA-230, the Election Commission of Pakistan ordered for re-polling on 43 polling stations.

PPP’s Noor Muhammad Shah Jillani and Shah Mehmood Qureshi of PTI were the main candidates contesting on the NA-230. PML-F chief Pir Pagara and and Arbab Rahim of Peoples Muslim League supported had extended their support for PTI’s Qureshi. However, Qureshi is facing PPP’s senior leader and former federal minister Nawab Yousaf Talpur on NA-229 Umerkot. 

PTI’s vice chairman Qureshi met with PML-F chief Pir Pagara and thanked for his support. On his request, Pir Pagara extended support for Shah Mehmood Qureshi in re-polling on 43 polling stations of NA-230 in Thar and NA-229 Umerkot.

Though, Tharparker is the traditional stronghold of the Bhutto’s PPP and has always been a challenge for any other competing party but Pir Pagara’s follower, Hur community, live in large numbers in Thar and Umerkot districts.

Speaking to media persons, PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi has demanded deployment of army personnel during re-polling.

Likewise the re-polling on NA-250 Karachi, he emphasised that army should be deployed in and outside the polling stations also during re-polling in NA-230 and NA229.

He said that political parties had complained of rigging in the general elections, alleging that caretaker government of Sindh is not neutral. President, Asif Ali Zardari’s statement has strengthened such allegations, he added.

Qureshi added that his party will host a consultative meeting of all the political parties on May 23 to discuss the prevailing situation of Karachi and chalk out a joint strategy to revive peace.

To a question to launch movement against MQM, PTI vice chairman said, “No movement is being launched against anyone as his party does not want political confrontation with any party.” He declared that PTI could not remain silent on incidents like murder of Zahra Shahid Hussain.

He rejected the reports as part of baseless propaganda that stated that Zahra had left the PTI, declaring that slain leader Zahra Shahid was among the founder workers of the party and holding office of the party’s provincial vice president.
