Activists of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday staged a protest demonstration against the brutal killing of party senior leader Zohra Shahid in Karachi and demanded the government to immediately arrest the culprits.

The protest demo led by PTI district President and MPA-elect Yasin Khalil, Sajjid Nawaz, Hamidul Haq and Arif Yousaf, Fazal Elahi along with Women Wing Central Vice President Ayesha Gulalai and other women workers. The participants were holding placards and banners, condemning the brutal killing of PTI Women Wing Vice President Sindh Zohra Shahid in Karachi. The PTI activists also expressed resentment over the statement of MQM Qaid Altaf Hussain regarding detachment of Karachi, calling for action against the culprits according to law of the land.

Addressing the demonstrators, speakers said that the MQM had given warning to PTI before the elections, which was proved with murder of a senior leader Zohra Shahid. They demanded the government to immediately take action against MQM and culprits should be brought to justice. The demonstrators also alleged that MQM had besieged Karachi and creating rift on linguistic basis in the city.

They also strongly condemned Altaf Hussain for statements against PTI Central Chairman Imran Khan, which was shameful act by a political leader.

On the occasion, PTI Women Wing Central President Ayesha Gulalai also strongly condemned the brutal killing of party senior leader Zohra Shahid, demanding the government to arrest her killers.

Likewise, in Swabi scores of PTI workers staged a protest rally against the murder of PTI Sindh Vice President Zuhra Shahid in Karachi and the returning officer decision. The rally led by Riaz Pandakhel advocate, PTI District Information Secretary, Ali Mohammad Khan, elected MNA of PTI, Nasir Khan, candidate of NA-9 and other office bearers.  The protesters blocked the road at Bacha Khan Chowk for over an hour to express anger. They were chanting slogans against MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and judiciary.

The protesters demanded recounting of votes and immediate arrest of killers of Zuhra Shahid. The anger protesters also pelted police mobile van with stones. As a result, the police resorted to aerial firing to disperse the protestors. Later on, in front of press club, addressing to the protesters, speakers demanded immediate arrest of the killers and ban on MQM and its chief Altaf Hussain’s speeches.

NNI adds from Karachi: The police have not yet found a clue to the assassination of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Sindh chapter senior vice president Zehra Shahid Hussain who was gunned down in Karachi late on Saturday. Imran Khan held MQM chief Altaf Hussain directly responsible for the targeted killing, but he denied responsibility, condemned the killing and demanded a retraction from Khan.

MQM also announced to sue Imran Khan for Rs 50 billion for defaming Altaf Hussain.

PTI and MQM which locked horns after the May 11 general elections announced protests and counter-protests in Karachi today.

Zehra was gunned down on Saturday night in Karachi, drawing strong reaction from PTI whose candidates have secured majority of votes in Sunday’s reelection in 43 polling stations of NA-250, Karachi.

According to the postmortem report, she was shot in head from a close range and died owing to excessive bleeding. The case of his murder has not so far been registered by the authorities.
