ISLAMABAD - Arif Nizami has been elected President Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) in the elections of the body for 2008-09. CPNE election for the year 2008-09 was held here on Thursday at Islamabad Club in which Arif Nizami and Khushnood Ali Khan were elected as President and Secretary General of the council respectively for the second consecutive term. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has congratulated Arif Nizami and Khushnood Ali Khan on their election as President and Secretary General of CPNE. In his separate felicitation messages to the President and General Secretary of CPNE, Prime Minister Gilani said their election to the prestigious slots is the manifestation of trust and confidence reposed in their able leadership and professional excellence by CPNE members. Gilani said that they have always preferred uprightness in their profession and kept it above everything. He also hoped during the tenure of new elected representatives of CPNE, the government-press relations would further strengthen and flourish in the days to come. He said the government is committed to uphold complete freedom of expression and it will work with CPNE in close coordination. Prime Minster Gilani expressed confidence that under their professional acumen, the print media would move forward to play its true role as the fourth pillar of the state.
