LAHORE - District and Sessions Judge Lahore on Thursday granted three days transit remand of two accused of forex scam Munaf Kalia and Javed Khanani, paving way for the FIA authorities to take them to Karachi for interrogation in connection with a new case registered against them. Both are directors of Khanani and Kalia enterprises and FIA had arrested them for their alleged involvement in the illegal transfer of billions of dollars abroad. On Thursday, FIA Lahore produced Khanani, Kalia and their co-accused Tariq Mahmood Khan before the court of judicial magistrate Faisal Jamil, stating that the physical custody of the accused persons is no more required as they had completed their interrogation. At this, the court ordered to send them to jail on judicial remand. The officials of FIA Karachi who were also present in the courtroom sought transit remand of Khanani and Kalia on the plea that they are required in new case registered against them a couple of days ago. Magistrate Faisal Jamil declined to grant transit remand, directing FIA officials to approach sessions judge for their transit remand. Later, FIA filed a petition in the court of Sessions judge for getting their transit remand. The judge accepted the petition remanding both the accused in custody for three days. Meanwhile, Faisal Jamil sent Tariq Mahmood to jail on judicial remand. Tariq was an employee of Duniya enterprises, a franchise of K & K in Gujranwala. The fourth accused in this case, Rustam Ali has already been remanded in judicial custody. It may by recalled here that FIA Karachi, on the direction of DG FIA, had registered one more FIR against the accused after finding more evidences against them and sent a team to Lahore for further interrogation.
