Rawalpindi - Professional beggars are seen in the local markets and roadsides ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and they are busy collecting alms on different pretexts.

The groups of professional beggars mostly women, children and old men, have crowded the markets, shopping malls, traffic signals and streets for grabbing money, which people give as charity. According to shoppers in markets, these beggars use new tactics to get sympathy of the people. “The concept of beggary has now emerged as a business and it seems that there is no control of beggars and a strong mafia is behind them,” said a resident of Commercial Market Raja Abdul Aziz.

Talking to APP, City Traffic Police Officer Shoaib Khurrum Janbaz said a comprehensive campaign has been launched to arrest the professional beggars. He said that special squad has been deployed to arrest professional beggars to make the campaign result oriented.
