LAHORE - Ghazanfar Mehmood of Garden Golf Club Islamabad was clinched the Punjab Amateur Golf title and was named champion for the year 2015 for his performance over the first two rounds of the championship.

Heavy rain intercepted play on the final day on Sunday and the Royal Palm Golf Course was declared unplayable. The tournament committee, therefore, decided that the final results will be on the basis of first two rounds.

As Ghazanfar was the leader at the end of two rounds with two days aggregate score of 148, he was crowned as the champion for the year. Wazir Ali, who was determined to put up a great final round fight, was deprived of the challenge and had to be contented with the runner-up slot. His aggregate score for the two rounds was 151. In the fight for gross honors, Zohaib Asif of DHA Karachi came third with his gross score of 152.

In the net category, the winner turned out to be Raza Ali of Mangala Golf Club. The net winner carded a net 146 followed by Usman Ali of Garrison. Usman Ali managed a net aggregate of 147. In the ladies category, Ghazala Yasmin was declared the Punjab Amateur champion. Ghazala Yasmin (Garrison) earned the 1st gross while Ana James Gill (Royal Palm) 2nd gross and Danya Aziz (Garrison) 3rd gross. In the ladies net category, Zaibun Nisa (Royal Palm) secured the 1st net, Sameea Javed (Gymkhana) 2nd net and Shaheen Irfan (Defence Raya) 3rd net.

Governor Punjab M Rafiq Rajwana was chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony and gave away prizes to the top performers. Royal Palm CEO Ramzan Sheikh, Syed Salman Shah of Coca Cola and others honorable guests were also present there. The governor in his remarks appreciated the Royal Palm management for promoting sports in a big way.
