LAHORE  - Police on Monday gunned down the ‘bodyguard’ of a PPP-leader who allegedly shot dead a police official during a clash in Baghbanpura area a couple of days ago.

Sources said that a police party took the guard, identified as Bilal, to a deserted locality in Manawan where the policemen shoot him down. However, a police officer insisted that the bodyguard was killed in genuine encounter.

According to police version, they raided at a hideout located in Manawan to capture the guard who was at large. As the raided the house, unidentified men opened fire on the cops triggering an armed encounter. As a result, Bilal died on the spot while his accomplices fled away. The body was removed to the morgue for autopsy.

Police sources revealed that Bilal, said to be bodyguard of PPP leader Babar Sohail Lakhoderiya, had opened fire on the policemen on the behest of his master during a clash over snap-checking at a police picket in Baghbanpura.

A police Constable Ikram Ullah was killed while three policemen and a passerby woman sustained bullet wounds in the gunfire.

The police arrested Lakhoderiya and his three bodyguards after registering a criminal case against them while one of the guards managed to escape from the crime scene.
