SIALKOT - The Sialkot business community has announced the establishment of a skill training centre at District Jail to impart modern skills to prisoners to make them useful members of the society.

Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Dr Sarfraz Bashir made the announcement after a meeting with Punjab Inspector General of Prisons Mian Farooq Nazir at SCCI here the other day.

The SCCI president pointed out that the jail inmates needed love, care and affection. He said that Sialkot business community especially the leading industrial units would soon establish a skill training centre at the Sialkot District Jail on self-help basis to impart advanced skills including stitching of the foot balls, gloves, leathers goods and manufacturing of sports gear and surgical instruments.

On the occasion, the Punjab IG Prisons informed that the Punjab government was spending Rs330 million on the installation of jammers in prisons across the province, adding that the UNO would provide Rs600 million to the Punjab government for installation of advanced security system in all the prisons soon. He said that Rs300 million were being spent on the installation of advanced scanners in all the jails in Punjab.

The IG Prisons said that PCOs were also being established in all the jails in collaboration with Wateen Telecom Company.
