LAHORE - NPT chairman Rafique Tarrar said that Allama Iqbal galvanised the entire Ummah by creating in them a sense of consciousness. Iqbal’s thoughts and reflections provide us with the most effective guidance in facing the challenges of the modern era.

Tarar voiced these views at a special ceremony held to mark 78th death anniversary of the poet-philosopher Allama Iqbal in his presidential address.

The event was held at the Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan under the aegis of the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust in collaboration with the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust.

Those who graced the occasion with their presence included Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust Vice Chairman, Prof Dr Rafique Ahmad, Chief Justice (r) Mian Mehboob Ahmad, Justice (r) Nasira Javed Iqbal, Mian Farooq Altaf, Sahibzada Sultan Ahmad Ali, Dr Muhammad AjmalNiazi, Absar Abdul Ali, Begum Mehnaz Rafi, Rana Muhammad Arshad, Najam Wali Khan, Muhammad Asif Bhalli, Javed Iqbal Butt, Allama Ahmad Ali Kasuri, Begum Surayya Khursheed, Begum SafiaIshaq, Dr Parveen Khan, Begum KhalidaJameel, Maulana Muhammad Shafi Josh, Engr. Muhammad Tufail Malik, Begum Hamid Rana, Shehzad Khan, Riaz Chaudhry and a large number of people from different walks of life. Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust Secretary Shahid Rasheed conducted the proceedings of the event.

Tarar further observed that Allama Iqbal persuaded the Muslims to undertake research and innovation in all the fields of life in the light of the Quranic teachings. Lack of innovative thinking has caused us to lag behind most of the other nations. On the 78th death anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, we must vow to come forward in order to dismantle all the obstacles blocking our way, he added.

Prof Dr Rafique Ahmad emphasised the need for learning new arts and crafts in order to put our dear homeland on the path to progress and prosperity. Allama Iqbal always viewed the would-be Muslim state as a bright sun that was to illuminate the entire world, he observed.

Chief Justice (r) MianMehboob Ahmad observed that Allama Iqbal had a keen desire that all the Muslims be transformed into perfect men (supermen) imbibing the Quranic teachings and show the way to salvation and perfection to the inhabitants of the rest of the globe.

Justice (r) Nasira Javed Iqbal observed that Allama Iqbal left no heritage except his priceless poetry and prose that illuminates the path to the construction of an ideal state. Each and every individual is to contribute to the nation-building activities.

Sahibzada Sultan Ahmad Ali observed that Allama Iqbal was much impressed by Maulana Rumi much the same way as the Quaid-i-Azam was impressed by Allama Iqbal. Allama Ahmad Ali Kasuri observed that the thought of Allama Iqbal and the charismatic leadership of the Quaid-i-Azam created Pakistan. The former expresses his love for the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) time and again in his writings.

Absar Abdul Ali observed that Allama Muhammad Iqbal stressed the need for conquering the forces of nature for the benefit of man. The youth must learn the latest disciplines to forge ahead.

At the end, Maulana Shafi Josh led a session of prayers for the elevation of the soul of Allama Iqbal and development of the country.
