LAHORE - Opposition leader Syed Khursheed yesterday appreciated Army chief’s decision regarding sacking of corrupt army officers and urged the politicians to follow the suit.

“One institution has sent the ball in our court. If we don’t act now, the situation may not remain the same”, he said while talking to reporters here.

He said that the Army Chief had started the process of accountability from his home by removing the corrupt officers from their posts.

“It is now incumbent on others to do the same”, he said, adding, that it was time for politicians to respond to the Army Chief’s call to throw out the corrupt in their ranks.

“The notion of sacred cow is no more there after Army Chief’s action against his own officers”, he remarked.

To a question, he said that allegations on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family were of strange nature, but they must be investigated.

Responding to a question about Army Chief’s statement about across the board accountability,he said that it should not be misinterpreted.

“General Raheel has not said that he wanted to do the accountability himself”, he added.

On Panama leaks, he said the issue had not been raised by any political party here. “It is an international issue which also involves world politicians including our Prime Minister and his family”, he said.

He said that Prime Minister’s assets may be legal but he should write letter to the Chief Justice to form Judicial Commission to probe the allegations. It should also include international auditors and experts, he stated.
