KARACHI - Mehfooz Yaar Khan, president of Awami Muslim League, on Saturday submitted a petition in Sindh High Court (SHC) to bring the US officials who harassed Dr Aafia and conduct legal proceedings against them in the Pakistani courts. The plaintiff said that when a delegation of Senate Standing Committee led by Shahid Hussain Syed had met with Dr Aafia in the US prison, she told them that some 6 US officials who wore masks on their faces, had assaulted her when she was shifted to the US prison. The plaintiff claimed that the Senate committee had also mentioned Dr Aafia's such statement in their report which had submitted to the higher government officials, but so far no action from the government side has been taken. On the other side, the division bench of SHC on Saturday directed the authorities concerned to allow the Union Council (UC) naib nazim to contest election for the Town Naib Nazim Kimari and disposed of his petition. The bench comprising of Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Faisal Arab was conducted the hearing on the petition moved by UC-8 Naib Nazim Kimari Town Muhammad Aslam Siddiqui. The plaintiff submitted that on February 16, 2009, the election commission has issued a notification regarding conducting the election for the post of town naib nazim and date of issuing nomination papers was also announced. While February 21 was the last date for submitting the nomination papers, but he was not allowed to submit his papers. He make respondents to Election Commission of Pakistan, Provincial Election Commission, Additional District and Sessions Judge West, Town Municipal Officer Kimari town, Town Nazim Kimari and Shamsul Haq Qasmi. The petitioner also submitted that he had been elected as UC naib nazim in the local bodies election held in 2004, while the officials concerned have been creating hurdles in his duties. The plaintiff prayed to reshuffle submitting the nomination papers and the election, while also cancel the notification issued regarding the election.
