LAHORE - A large number of kidney patients and their attendants Saturday staged a strong protest demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club against the Shaikh Zayed Hospital's administration for not providing free of cost treatment putting their lives at risk. The protesters chanted slogans against the Federal Government and the hospital's management and appealed to the President and Prime Minister to take notice of patients' sufferings. They were of the view that Punjab Government is providing all the dialysis facilities & medication to the kidney patients free of cost at all its hospitals while the Federal Government has withdrawn this facility. Ali Irfan, a protestor, said that each quality dialysis costs Rs 4000 while a layman or even middle class people could not afford the same treatment twice or thrice a week. He said that Sheikh Zayed Hospital was facing financial crisis these days, resultantly, patients especially the kidney patients are striving. He said that it is the basic right of the patients to get the free dialysis facilities besides other treatment. Another protestor Ahmad Ali said that around 250 patients and their associated families were suffering great problems due to non-availability of free dialyses treatment at the Shaikh Zayed Hospital. The protest continued for four hours.
