LAHORE – Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan has urged the political parties to support the scrutiny process planned by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure free and fair conduct of the next polls.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, he said that the political forces should act upon the election commission plan to weed out black sheep in the larger national interest.

Munawar said that if the political parties made a thorough scrutiny in the beginning and issued tickets only to those fulfilling the qualifications laid down in the constitution, the elections could be conducted in a transparent manner and acceptable to all.  He warned the political parties of a bloody revolt of the masses if no serious attempt made to put the things in order.  Munawar said terrorism in Balochistan was to fail the Pak-Iran gas pipeline effort and the handing over of Gawadar port to China.

He remarked that the US, India and Israel were afraid of Pakistan’s increasing ties with China and Iran and wanted to damage the efforts at any cost.  The JI chief said that senior security officials had repeatedly pointed out India’s involvement in Balochistan.
