LAHORE - Punjab Health Secretary Muhammad Jehanzeb Khan has directed the officers to prepare working papers for the promotion of nurses in next grades. He directed that cases from BS-19 to BS-20 should be submitted by Monday next whereas, the other promotion cases from grade 16 to 17 be completed within eight days. Chairing a meeting to review the service and educational matters of nurses on Thursday, Jehanzeb Khan constituted two-member committee comprising Dean IPH Prof Yaqoob Qazi and Principal Fatima Jinnah Medical College Prof Rakhshanda Rehman for resolving nurses service structure and educational issues with the assistance of DG Nursing. He directed that nurses having specializations in any field should be posted in the hospitals in their relevant departments. Moreover, recommendation be prepared for giving allowance to specialized nurses. He said that gold medals would be awarded to the position holder nurses in the examination. He further said that he would recommend to the Chief Minister for awarding five scholarships to the nurses for getting higher education abroad. He said that nursing schools were being gradually upgraded into colleges. He said that the committee would also give its recommendations regarding the curriculum and induction of nurses in grade 16 or 17. He said that capacity building programme for nurses should be started. He directed that conducive working environment and foolproof security should be provided to the nurses at their duty places. He said that seminars and workshop for sensitization of nurses on Women Protection Bill also be arranged. The Secretary Health said that Best Nurse of the Year Award would also be launched for attracting and encouraging the female students to join nursing profession. He directed that vacant posts of nurses should immediately be filled through ad-hoc appointments and these cases also be sent to Public Service Commission for recruiting nurses on regular basis.
