Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik informed the National Assembly that 15365 incidents of abduction and kidnappings took place in the country during last year. Responding to a call attention notice moved by Farrah Naz Ispahani and others, he said 52 cases of abduction occurred in Islamabad, 13497 in Punjab, 1293 in Sindh, 273 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 250 in Balochistan during last year. The Minister said abductions are mostly done by terrorists and they target big cities for this purpose. He said children are also abducted for use as suicide bombers. Malik said the government is going to sign an agreement with Wafaqul Madaris soon under which they will be accountable in respect of their students. He said there is a proposal that students belonging to a province should be admitted only in Madaris or that province. The Interior Minister said Home Secretaries and Inspector Generals of Police have been instructed to exercise greater vigilance and a task force has also been formed to address the problem.
