OUR STAFF REPORTER MUZAFFARGARH/VEHARI - A large number Wapda employees including a senior Mepco official on Tuesday took out a rally and protested for restoration of free electricity units facility. Addressing the protesting rally at Chungi here, Mepco official Ghulam Abbas said the rulers must be hanged because of working against the thoughts of Zulifqar Ali Bhutto as they are snatching bread from the poor messes. He said that persecution of Wapda employees would not be tolerated. We demand that the prime minister should return the facility of free units of electricity for Wapda employees. Carrying placards inscribed, the protesters chanted slogans against the government. They threatened to close all the stations if the decision was not withdrawn. Separately, hundreds of Wapda employees demonstrated in front of Mepco office in Vehari against the governments policy regarding unit elimination for Wapda personnel. Also they demanded that the government should restore the unit policies for the WAPDA employees otherwise they would stage protest demonstrate on daily basis from 9am to 11am and boycott official work in the offices. On the other hand, talking about the protest, members of social communities alleged that ordinary people have no electricity for daily use and Wapda employees use free units not for their own homes but distribute and sell electricity to their neighbours. After the implementation of this law, they said, the government would be able to save electricity for ordinary persons. Former employee of Wapda Sheikh Shareef said while giving his version that the government should facilitate the employees but this is the moral duty of WAPDA employs that they should not misuse the facility. SHAKARGARH - The workers of Pakistan Wapda Hydro-Electric Central Labour Union, led by Divisional Chairman Muhammad Azam, Secretary Rana Mukhtar Ahmad, Aurang Zeb, Babar Ali, Chairman Muhammad Sarwar, Riaz Sahi, Rana Muhammad Younas took a a rally in protest against the government decision to end free electricity unit facility to the lower scale employees across the country. The participants of the rally marched towards Railway Gate on Zafarwal Road where they blocked the road. Speakers demanded that the decision against the welfare of the labours should be taken back and the facility of free unit should be restored to employees. KHAN GARH - The Mepco Khan Garh Sub-Division staff has vehemently condemned the withdrawal of free electricity units facility to Wapda employees and has termed the decision wrong and unjust. The decision regarding the withdrawal of free electricity units was made by the federal cabinet during a meeting that was chaired Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani. The Mepco employees stopped working at 8:00am and took to roads where they staged a protest. They chanted slogans against the govt and remained there till 11:00am. They demanded the restoration of the free electricity units facility immediately. They also warned that if the decision was not revoke they would launch a massive protest which would continue till restoration of the facility.
