LAHORE – Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan has said that loyalty to Asif Ali Zardari and protection of his corruption was the sole criteria for nomination to the office of prime minister.

In a statement here on Wednesday, he said the most corrupt person in the Gilani cabinet had been nominated as the prime minister. He added that Raja Pervez Ashraf’s nomination was a joke because of his incompetence and corruption.

“Ashraf was involved in the rental power projects scandal wherein billion of rupees were involved. His nomination has proved that the PPP did not have a single parliamentarian with a clean record,” Munawar maintained.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer further said that the Supreme Court had done a great service to the country by sending home the corrupt mafia. He also urged the apex court to go a step further and ensure implementation of its orders relating to Balochistan and Karachi, besides taking note of the National Assembly speaker’s ruling on the Supreme Court decision.

Munawar said that confrontation between state institutions would only harm the country. He stressed the political parties to join hands for the formation of an agreed interim government and for holding of fresh elections.

Also, Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Secretary General Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha said on Thursday that the prevailing situation demanded that Zardari vacated the President House because he was equally responsible for the present ills along with the disqualified premier Yousuf Raza Gilani.

In a press statement, he said that the rulers who were sitting on the plundered national wealth had lost the confidence of the masses. He said that billions of dollars in Swiss banks were public money and needed to be retrieved.

Meanwhile, launching ceremony of Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Secretary General Farid Ahmed Piracha’s book titled ‘Travels to Turkey’ would be held on June 27 at Alhamra.
