ISLAMABAD - Former Prime Minister Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Sardar Attiq Ahmed Khan has launched full-fledged efforts to once again become Prime Minister at all costs, sources told TheNation on Sunday. Sardar Attiqs government was dislodged by a faction of Muslim Conference-Sikander (MC-S) that supported other allied parties including Pakistan Peoples Party, MQM and like-minded group of independents and voted for Sardar Yaqoob Khan Ex-Prime Minister of AJK. He succeeded after a long struggle in uniting the Muslim Conference factions Muslim Conference-Qayoom (MC-Q) and Muslim Conference-Sikander (MC-S). As per pre-condition for this unity, Sardar Attiq surrendered his demand for premiership in favour of Raja Farooq Haider and himself held the office of President All Jummu & Kashmir Muslim Conference. The objective behind this move is said to gain the benefit of upcoming elections in AJK. This unity of Muslim Conference factions has reached once again to a decisive turn. Well-placed sources in AJ&K government said severe differences existed between MC-Q and ruling MC-S. As many as 22 loyalist Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of MC-Q have assured their full support to Sardar Attiq and encouraged him for moving No-Confidence Motion against the present set-up. MC-Q would need 25 members support to form the government. To gain the desired strength for No Confidence Motion, MC-Q is trying to get into agreement with a group of six independent Like-minded MLAs, sources further confirmed. These are counter-productive measures taken by MC-Q to dissolve the influence of PML-N and their blind support to Prime Minster Raja Farooq Haider of MC-S. Sardar Attiq, despite efforts, has miserably failed in winning over PML-N leadership. To resolve the existing controversies six-hour long meeting was held between Attiq Ahmed Khan and Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider to sort out the suitable solutions, sources further confirmed. When this scribe contacted, Sardar Attiq Ahemd Khan said, My efforts are to keep the unity intact. It is in favour of the Muslim Conference to be united. We can resolve all the issues bilaterally within the party. To a question about whether he was interested in holding office of Prime Minister again, he said, I am not in favour of destabilising the present set-up, I would prefer to discuss all the issues regarding future within the party. Some elements are trying to create rift in the party, but I am sure that PML-N will discourage these elements. Positive role of PML-N would ensure stability in the AJK territory. He confirmed and termed the meeting with Prime Minister AJK a routine meeting. To a question, he said, Siddiq-ul-Farooqs recent statement encouraged us that PML-N would keep its support to Muslim Conference instead of establishing PML-N in AJK. Some elements are trying to create differences between the MC factions, but they would not be successful, he further said. When this scribe contacted Sardar Yaqoob Khan ex-prime minister of the Like-minded group, he said the present government was busy in promoting nepotism and had failed in fulfilling the expectations of the people. To a question if the Like-minded group would support dislodging the present set-up, he said, Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider cheated the group, if his government is dislodged we will support it. We will not compromise on our identity. While talking to TheNation Raja Kafeel Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Prime Minster AJK confirmed that six-hour meeting was held between Sardar Attiq Ahemd Khan and Prime Minster AJK Raja Farooq Haider. In the meeting, several issues of bilateral interest were discussed by two leaders. To a question, he said, Sidiq-ul-Farooqs meeting with Prime Minster Raja Farooq was a routine meeting. He said he was unaware of any expected changes in the AJK government. When this scribe contacted PML-N spokesman Siddiq-ul-Farooq, he said, Its our wish that both the factions of Muslim Conference should work together. It is evident that PML does support the present set-up in AJK. If an attempt is made to destabilise the present set up, PML-N would establish its AJK chapter party without wasting the time. Talking to TheNaiton, Chief of Peoples Muslim League (PML) Barrister Sultan Mehmood said, The present AJK government is a mix of unnatural allies and they dont have capacity to deliver. I am sure they will get separated very soon. I am in favour of fresh polls that would help in getting rid of these incompetent people, he added.
