The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) takes strict notice of encroachment of land of National Stadium Karachi by the Pakistan Army and judicial institution on stadium's land and sought details in this regard. The PAC was told that Pakistan Army constructed a Housing Colony on 18-acre land of National Stadium Karachi by setting up encroachments while judges colony is also constructed on 6-acre land. The PAC has also formed a special committee, led by Khawaja Asif to conduct an inquiry into the financial irregularities in the tenure of former Chairman PCB and to pinpoint responsible persons. The meeting of PAC was held here at the Parliament House on Monday. Chairman PAC, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan presided over the meeting, attended by Rukshana Bangash, Yasmin Rehman, Zahid Hamed, Aasia Nasir, Nadeem Afzal Gondal and Mian Haji Hussain Pirzada. Chairman PCB, Ijaz Butt and other officials also attended the meeting. The committee also recommended that the name of former Chairman PCB, Dr. Naseem Ashraf be placed on the Exit Control List. Chairman PAC, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan urged that Dr. Naseem Ashraf should be inquired about irregularities worth of million of rupees in his tenure, adding that he is still being given VIP Protocol. Chairman PCB, Ijaz Butt told PAC that Biomechanics Machine was purchased with a total cost of Rs. 50 million and termed it only a wastage of money. He informed the committee that Dr. Naseem Ashraf had approved the purchasing of that machine while Mudassar Nazar, Ali Zia and Shafqat Naghmi visited Australia and they have no information about the machine. The PAC was further told that Pakistan Army constructed a Housing Colony on 18-acre land of National Stadium Karachi by setting up encroachments while judges colony is also constructed on 6-acre land. Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan on the occasion said that no one would be allowed to occupy the land of National Stadium Karachi. Chairman PCB, Ijaz Butt informed the committee that Pakistan Army occupied land covering the area of 18-acre worth of billion of rupees, in the decade of 1980 and many houses have also been constructed on the land. Chaudhary Nisar directed PCB to move to the Supreme Court of Pakistan on the issue, adding PAC would write letters to Chief of Army Staff and Chief Justice of Pakistan. Chairman PAC asked Ijaz Butt to utilize money with care and urged that PCB to formulate rules and regulations for awarding prizes to players. He said that PCB should ensure the awarding of prizes to players through private sponsors instead of using its fund. He said that there is dire need of transparency in administrative and financial matters of PCB and it is vital for Pakistan Cricket Team to regain its lost glory, adding the committee does not want to interfere in matters of the board. Chairman PCB, Ijaz Butt expressed his reservations regarding Standing Committees. He informed the committee that the number of employees in PCB has reduced to 650 from 1180. Ijaz Butt further stated that 5 acre land of National Stadium was occupied by land-mafia and threats are being received regarding not to disclose the names of land mafia. Chairman PCB told Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan that he would tell him the names in private and would disclose the names in public if asked by Chairman PAC.
