Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that some elements are carrying out target killings in the name of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Awami National Party (ANP) in Karachi. The miscreants operating in the name of various political parties and involved in sabotage activities in the Karachi would be dealt with iron hand, he said this while talking to media men after meeting with Director General Rangers Karachi Maj. Gen. Liaquat Ali during visit of Rangers headquarters. Answering to a question, he said, the rangers would continue to keep additional power and action would be continued against anti-state elements till maintenance of peace in the metropolitan. He hoped that the situation in Karachi would get normal soon. If any Personnel of ranger is found involved in wrongdoing then he would be dismissed like Police Personnel, he said. No one would be allowed to destabilize the peace of Karachi and if anyone tries to do so then he would be dealt strictly with, he said while responding to a question. Action against anti state elements in Karachi would continue without any fear and favor, he warned. Terming Karachi as a juggler vain of Pakistan, he said, the illegal residents would be regularized under the law soon. Survey is being carried out to repatriate illegal immigrants from Karachi, he said. The incidents of target killing have dropped considerably and activities of miscreants are being monitored through satellite, he added. He appealed to citizens of Karachi to pinpoint anti state elements so that effective action could be taken against them. No one is above the law and MQM (Haqqaqi) have full right to continue their political activities in Karachi, Rehman said. We are taking decisions by taking all coalition partners including MQM into confidence, he said. He ruled out deadlock between MQM and PPP over local bodies system. He regretted the news appearing in section of press in this regard. We are considering either to adopt local bodies system of 1979 or 2001 but final decision would be taken in interest of masses, he added. Answering to a question, he said, banned organizations would not be allowed to work by changing their name. Recruitment in Police department would be made on merit at all cost, he said. Replying to a question, he said, the Government would establish the housing society for Rangers Personnel.
