ISLAMABAD - The incumbent government has time and again claimed to complete Lowari Tunnel Project till next year (2012), yet over 50 per cent work is yet to be done despite lapse of many years. Around 50 per cent work on Lowari tunnel is still remaining and the pace of work is to slow due to non-availability of funds, weather conditions and other reasons, Well-placed communication ministry officials told The Nation on Monday. The mega project was started as rail project and platform was even made on both sides but after the lapse of around 20 years it was converted into road project. When contacted, Minister for Communication Dr Arbab Alamgir said that ministry was making efforts to complete the delayed project as soon as possible. He said that around Rs 17 billion were required to complete it and paucity of funds was the basic reason behind the delay.
