ISLAMABAD - A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar M Chaudhary on Monday turned down the PML-Q plea to remove Zafar Qureshi, Additional Director General FIA, from the case on accusation of him being biased. SM Zafar, counsel for PML-Q, said Zafar Qureshi has made unfounded charges and given a baseless statement before the apex court that Ch Shujaat Hussain, Ch Wajahat Hussain, Ch Pervaiz Elahi, Ch Moonis Elahi, Habibullah Warriach and Mohsin Warriach threatened him of dire consequences, asking the court further that if he is killed, they should be held responsible. PML-Q leaders Ch Shujaat and Mushahid Hussain also witnessed the proceedings. The FIA ADG told the court that he had been blamed and maligned by some persons whose cases are under investigation. He said the protective bail given by the SHC to Moonis was for three weeks. The CJP said: Chaudhary brothers are very respectable and also know the credibility of Zafar Qureshi. He ordered the FIA to deal with the cases of Moonis and others in accordance with law. The CJP said all people whose cases were before the courts are innocent until proven guilty. Qureshi informed the Supreme Court that Rs 1.76 billion have been recovered in the NICL scam. He informed the bench that Moonis Elahi owes Rs320 million to the NICL. He informed the court that they have attached Rs 500 million property of the Mohsin Habib Warriach and efforts are being made to bring him and Qasim Amin Dada, who is also in the United Kingdom, back to the country. Qasim Dada flew out from Karachi to Dubai on Dec 28, 2010 and next day went on to the UK. Zafar Qureshi informed the court that in the 804 kanal land case, they have recovered Rs 1.68b, in the Lahore Airport 20 kanal and 2 marla land case Rs 80m recovered while Rs 420m are yet to be recovered. Lahore reporter adds: CJ Iftikhar remarked that the court will not do injustice to Moonis Elahi for he is an elected member of the Assembly and hails from a respectable family, according to a press statement of PML-Q issued on Monday. Shujaat and Mushahid came to rostrum; Mushahid said you (the CJP) are a pillar on which independent judiciary is standing. Shujaat thanked the CJP for his remarks regarding his family, said the statement.
