KARACHI - FBR announced Monday it has maintained a zero-rated facility on the imports of commercial goods at the import stage. A press release issued by Pakistan Chemical & Dyes Merchants Association (PCDMA) said that the Chairman FBR Salman Siddique assured the importers that their consignments, which have been reached ports before 16th March, 2011, shall be taxed as was the position before promulgation of the SRO-509, whereas sales tax shall be charged only when sale has been made to unregistered persons for consignments reaching after 15th March, 2011. Muhammad Haroon Agar, Chairman, PCDMA in a meeting held at KCCI with Dr Abdul Hafiz Shaikh, Federal Finance Minister and Salman Siddique, Chairman FBR raised the issue pertaining to commercial importers regarding SRO-509/ dated 15th March, 2011, since their consignments were stuck at the port for last few days for clearance as there was ambiguity about the situation.
