GUJRANWALA - The National Assembly-98 is an important constituency which highlights the unpredictable position of the PPP even after the visit of President Zardari to the district mainly due to incomplete development projects and the party workers and leaders’ unresolved concerns.

It was expected that president’s visit will help remove the apprehensions of party the PPP members who are jumping on the PTI, PML-N or other parties’ band wagons. Abdullah Virk, divisional president of PPP, has joined the PTI while his slot has not been filed yet. A task was assigned to former PPP Punjab president Imtiaz Safdar Warraich to address the party workers’ concerns but he could no become remarkably successful.

Delay in completion of Khiali Flyover project added to the worries of the masses thereby tarnishing the repute of the PPP. Former MNA Warraich remained failed to perform well. Thus, it is considered that Warraich will face difficulties and people anger in the forthcoming general elections from his constituency. However, former MPA Muhammad Arqam contest for the MPA slot again.

On the other hand, aspirants have stepped up their efforts to get PML-N tickets while Mian Tariq, former town nazim, is likely to get a PML-N ticket to contest an election as his brother Mian Mazhar Javiad has strong roots among the people. Likewise, Ch Muhammad Ashraf Warraich is also hopeful for getting the party ticket for MPA slot and has got the support of Ghulam Dastagir Khan.

Rana Bilal Ijaz was nominated a PML-N candidate for NA-98 but he refused to contest from NA-98 as he is going to contest from NA-100.

Iqbal Gujjar is also in the race but his success will cause a division in the vote bank of Gujjar family in the constituency.

The Jamaat-e-Islami’s Bilal Qudrat Butt, will also contest from the constituency while PTI’s Ishtiaq Safdar Tarrar and Rana Shahzad Hafeez are trying to get their party’s ticket.
