ISLAMABAD - A case against four bigwigs including former President Pervez Musharraf and former Prime Minister Chaudhary Shujaat Hussein could be registered at any instant of time as legal branch of Islamabad capital territory police was evaluating the application. According to well-placed sources, higher authorities of Aabpara police station were awaiting advice from the Legal Branch to go ahead to register a case against four bigwigs including former president Pervez Musharraf, Ejaz-ul-Haq, Tariq Azeem, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and others.

“We will register a case against the accused as soon as we receive directions from legal branch to go ahead in this regards,” one of the higher police officials of Islamabad capital territory police told TheNation on Thursday adding that the Lal Masjid administration had lodged a complaint with the Aabpara police station late in 2007.

The Lal Masjid administration had demanded in written to lodge a case against against former president Pervez Musharraf, Ejaz-ul-Haq, Tariq Azeem, former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and others for their alleged involvement in the killing of innocent people at the Lal Masjid, the police sources told this scribe on Tuesday. The application was lodged by the head of Jamia Hafsa Maulana Abdul Qayyum seeking registration of cases against the nominated persons.

The official told TheNation that the application had been sent to the Legal Branch for an opinion, as a number of such applications had already been lodged with the police.

“They are evaluating the case on priority basis and we are awaiting to hear from them anxiously,” said the official concerned with the case.
