SHEIKHUPURA - Putting aside the Chief Minister’s instructions, the district administration and Health Department have adopted no preventive measure to eradicate dengue larva from the district.

This was revealed when this scribe conducted a survey in various localities around the city here the other day.

During the visit to different areas including Gharib Abad, Janduiala Road locality, Sheish Mahal area, Jehangirabad and Ghang Road, the residents revealed that no surveillance or anti-dengue team had approached them. The presence of stagnant water in these localities which can turn out to be potential breeding ground for dengue larva, expose the indifference and negligence of the district administration.

The residents informed that no anti-dengue spray or any such actions could be taken in these areas so far. With the rise in mercury, the dengue can spread in these areas if prompt steps are not taken otherwise all previous efforts of the Punjab government would go in vain.

The situation is even worse in the rural areas where villagers did not have any awareness about the eradication of dengue larva because the survey teams never bothered to visit these areas.

When contacted, District Health Officer Dr Rana Rafique said that they were fully alert and surveillance teams for larvaciding would be sent to all areas across the district.

However, their alertness seems to be confined to their offices only as so far no practical actions could be taken in this regard.

The dengue fever caused irreversible lose of precious human lives in the past and the Punjab CM’s prompt actions helped control the menace in the province.

However, if the district government and the Health Department do not make necessary arrangements anti-dengue larva fumigation in both the urban and rural areas the situation could get worse.

The residents of these areas have demanded the high-ups pre-emptive measures against dengue.
