LAHORE – Dacoits on Thursday went on the rampage, robbed four residences, looted families, passersby, and motorists at gunpoint and made off with cash, gold ornaments worth Rs10 million besides four cars and 18 motorcycles, police sources said.

Five dacoits barged into the house of Nazir Ahmed in the Garden Town police area and took away cash, gold ornaments, and other valuables worth Rs five million after holding the inmates’ hostage at gunpoint.

Four gunmen stormed into the house of Nadeem Anjum in the Nishtar Colony police precincts and escaped after collecting cash and gold ornaments worth Rs one million.

Four robbers forced their entry into the house of Qaiser in the Johar Town police limits and fled away after snatching cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs600000.

Robbers and thieves also struck another three houses in the Green Town, Satu Katla and Shadbagh police areas respectively and made off with cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs2.1million. The police are investigating with no arrest made yet.

Gunmen riding on motorcycles also looted motorists, families and passersby in the Naseerabad, Sabzazar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Satu Katla, Faisal Town, Shafiqabad, Shahdara, Ichhra, Barki and Township police areas and snatched away cash, mobile phones and gold ornaments worth Rs250000.

Meanwhile, four cars were driven away from Race Course, Civil Lines, Faisal Town and Johar Town police vicinities. At least 18 motorcycles were either snatched or stolen away from different parts of the city on Thursday, police sources added.

Two killed: A motorcyclist was killed and his wife wounded seriously in a road accidents in Qila Gujjar Singh police said on Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Manzoor Ahmed, and his wife Yasmin Bibi, were on way home when the scarf of Yasmin reeled into the rear wheel of motorcycle, wounding them critically. They were rushed to hospital where Manzoor died.

The deceased is said to be electrician form Sarwar Road. Yasmin is reported to be in critical condition.

In another accident, an unidentified youth was crushed to death by a rashly driven vehicle in the Lytton Road area. The body was removed to the morgue.

Police said the youth was crossing the road when a recklessly-driven vehicle ran over him, resulting in his on-the-spot death. Further investigations were underway.
