LAHORE (PR) - Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union has said hat power sector is a national public utility of the great importance for the industry, agriculture, commerce and general consumers, therefore, its efficient and transparent working is essential in the wider public interest.

It said unfortunately, the power sector is already in serious crisis. “Over and above, the management of various distribution companies has started recruitments, ignoring the statutory rules of the recruitment and in violation of Article-25 of the Constitution,” a statement said.

The management of LESCO has even ignored the statutory quota reserved for the children of the deceased, retired and serving employees. This illegal recruitment will seriously affect the efficiency and transparency of the companies, the statement said.

In such situation, the union has been approaching the Chief Election Commission of Pakistan and High Courts to get nullified these illegal and unconstitutional appointments. The union also urged the Chairman WAPDA to get cancelled these illegal recruitments; otherwise, the union will be compelled to launch countrywide protest, in case, the said illegal recruitments are not cancelled. The union would also observe dharna (sit-in) before LESCO HQ on Friday (today).
