PESHAWAR - Tribal students of various education institutions on Thursday held a protest demonstration to press for their demand to remit tuition fees and stop the US drone attacks in tribal areas.

The protesting students led by Fata Students Federation Central President Haroon Luqman, Samiullah Afridi, Shaukat Aziz gathered on main Sher Shah Suri Road outside the press club.

The protestors were carrying placards and banners noted with voices in favour of their demands and against the drone attacks.

The infuriated protesting students chanted slogans against the former PPP-led government, declaring it responsible for current situations in Fata.

Addressing on the occasion, the Federation President Luqman Afridi said that former government had announced to waive off tuition fees of students hailing from militancy-hit tribal areas but the decision was yet to be implemented.

“It is quite injustice with the war-affected tribal students,” he maintained. He said that a large number of students were deprived of even their basic right of education due to the current worsening law and order situations in Fata.

He also termed the government’s steps for promotion of education in Fata as insufficient and demanded prompt measures for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of war-affected educational institutions in the tribal region.

He also condemned the ongoing US secrete drone campaign in tribal region, adding that innocent tribesmen, including women and children, were being killed in the attacks. He said that these strikes were against the sovereignty and integrity of the country, which must be stopped.

He also demanded immediate cessation of military operations in Fata and proper arrangements for the repatriation of the internally displaced people to their hometowns.
