Islamabad - Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif yesterday lauded the services and contribution made by the outgoing Ambassador of Argentine Rodolfo Martin J Saravia who, he said, `shared our joys and sorrows.’

Addressing the farewell reception in honour of the outgoing diplomat, the Prime Minister said during his tenure, Rodolfo J Martin made untiring efforts to strengthen the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Argentine. Saravia made many friends here and apart from his duties, he was an extraordinary member of the diplomatic corps, he added.

The Prime Minister said in recognition of the outgoing ambassador’s meritorious services, the government of Pakistan conferred on him Hilal-e-Pakistan, country’s highest civil award.

He said Saravia is a dear friend and well-wisher of Pakistan.

The Prime Minister extended his gratitude and felicitations to the members of the diplomatic corps including the wives of the diplomats for striving to further strengthen the ties between Pakistan and their respective countries. He said Pakistan valued the commitment of the foreign diplomats to bring their countries closer to Pakistan.

He also appreciated the meritorious services of Susana Martin, the spouse of the outgoing ambassador, who also played her indispensable part to further cement the bilateral ties.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said his government, particularly the ministry of foreign affairs, was always committed to keep its door open to the diplomatic corps and wished the diplomats a productive and comfortable stay in Pakistan. He also wished the outgoing ambassador the best for his future endeavours and conveyed his sincere wishes to their families as well as their respective heads of the state.

Almost every ambassador and high commissioner was present and no one missed the opportunity to meet the prime minister.

Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rasheed, Federal Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan, PM’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant to PM Tariq Fatemi, Secretary Foreign Affair Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry and Military Secretary Brig Akmal were also present on the occasion.

Saravia started introducing every ambassador to the prime minster. They also had a group photo and also made speeches.

Saravia in his speech said that now Pakistan would have two ambassadors in Argentina, explaining one will be Pakistan’s diplomat and second would be Saravia. He recalled his meeting with Prime Minister Sharif three days ago and also his meeting with General Raheel sharif on Monday morning at Army House. He informed that inquiry report of Gilgit helicopter tragedy would be released in a few days.

He thanked Sartaj Aziz, Tariq Fatemi and Aizaz Chaudhry for their cooperation and hoped the same will continue for the new dean.

He also said that Ambassador of Kazakhstan Bakhitbek Shabarabayev would be the new dean from 26th of March.
