ISLAMABAD - Sahil Malik heroics helped Ustad Aslam Roda Club become crowned champions of the 1st Invitational National U-20 Indoor Girls’ Hockey Championship after edging Deva Club 2-1 in the final played here at Pakistan Sports Complex Boxing Gymnasium on late Sunday night.

The event was organised by Islamabad Hockey Association (IHA) in collaboration with Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and supported by Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), in which top female teams from different parts of the country took part.

Both the teams launched series of attacks on each other’s goal, but outstanding goalkeeping by both the goalies denied both teams from taking early lead. Sahil then suddenly dodged three defenders to put the ball into the net of Deva Club to give Ustad Aslam Roda Club 1-0 lead before the end of the first quart. Deva Club didn’t take too much time to equalise, as Afseen leveled the score 1-1 with a solo goal. Sahil Malik once again rose to the occasion and scored the second and all-important goal in the dying moments of the final to give her club 2-1 lead which remained intact till the final whistle was blown.

PHF president Brig (R) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar graced the final as chief guest while PHF secretary Shahbaz Senior, IHA chairman Shahryar Khan and other were also present there. Later, the chief guest distributed trophies and medals among the winning teams and players.
