KARACHI The commercial capital of the country continued to bleed on Monday with 13 more people fell prey to violence taking the death toll to 98 in last six days. Incidents of violence and target killing continued throughout the day in different areas ahead of the MQMs mourning day call on Tuesday (today) supported by various political, religious and commercial groups. According to details, four officials of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) and a nephew of former MPA of MQM also fell prey to the violence. The incident took place at Nishtar Road in the limits of Garden Police Station where law enforcers had cordoned off the area because of the procession of Youm-e-Ali. The incident took place at KW&SB Garden office located at the base of Auliya Masjid where four armed assailants, riding on two bikes, barged into the office and opened indiscriminate gunshots on water board officials. Resultantly, four officials of KW&SB, identified as Chaudhry Altaf, Anwaarullah Khan, Arif and Abdul Qadir were killed on the spot while another official namely Saleem sustained minor bullet wounds. SHO Zahid Hussain said that according to Saleems statement, four armed assailants barged into the office at around 11:00 am and targeted the KW&SB officials which left four persons dead and one injured. After committing the crime, the culprits managed to flee. He said the police had recovered over a dozen empty shells from the spot. KW&SB officials said the victims Altaf and Anwaar, who were the residents of Shershah and Nazimabad respectively, were employed as executive engineers at Garden office of water utility. Similarly, the victim Arif was a bill collector and living at Bheampura while deceased Abdul Qadir and the injured Saleem were working in KW&SB as valve-men. In another incident, a bullet-riddled body of the nephew of former MPA of MQM Muhammad Hussain was found in the jurisdiction of Gulshan Iqbal Police Station. SHO Bashir Hussain said the body of victim Mehtab, 18, a resident of Squad Terrace, was found at a flat of Junaid Palace located in the same area where he was residing. He said the victim who was shot four times was a student of intermediate class and was also an active worker of APMSO. He said a case would be registered after his funerals. Separately, a young man Junaid was shot dead in Patel Para area in the limits of Jamshed Quarter Police Station. The body was shifted to CHK for legal formalities. Victim had received two bullets. Tension gripped several areas of Jamshed Quarter soon after the incident and heavy aerial firing was reported in surrounding areas. Miscreants torched a minibus. During heavy firing two passers whose identities are yet to be ascertained were killed. Police shifted their bodies to CHK. All shops and markets were closed due to poor law and order situation in the locality. A 28-year-old man Abdul Karim was shot dead in PIB police limits. Police said the victim received two bullets in his head and died on the spot. SHO Zulfiqar said the victim, a resident of Ghulam Memon Goth, Old Golimar, was working at SITE. The body was shifted to JPMC for legal formalities. The deceased had no political affiliation. Separately, a bullet-riddled and tortured body was found at Ismail Road near Marble Factory in the limits of Sharafi Police Station. The identity of the victim is yet to be ascertained. He appeared to be Pushtoon. A man namely Naveed Abbas was gunned down at Zia Colony in the limits of Korangi Police Station. Police said the victim was volunteer of Masoom Shuhada Imambargah. A man was shot dead in Zoological Garden, in the remits of Soldier Bazaar Police Station. SHO Ghulam Nabi Wago said miscreants threw two people near Zoological Garden and ran away. When police reached the scene, they found injured men lying on road with their hands and legs tied with ropes. They had received bullets in their head. Police shifted them to CHK where, during treatment, 35-year-old man succumbed to his injuries, while others condition was critical. Officer said both were kidnapped from Pak Colony area and they appeared to be Baloch. MLO Dr Mubarak said he was in critical condition. Another man was shot dead in Ashfaq Colony Keamari in the limits of Jackson Police Station. The victim Riaz, 23, was the resident of Gulshan Sikander Abad. He was sitting at his Kabab shop in Ashfaq Colony, where a man came there and after exchanging hot words opened fire on him. He received a bullet in his head and died on the spot. SHO Aslam Joya said the victim hailed from Mardan. No case was registered till filing of the report.
