LAHORE - Additional District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem Ahmad on Monday dismissed a petition, seeking contempt of court proceedings against FIA additional director general Zafar Qureshi. The court also dismissed a post-arrest bail plea of two bank officials. Qureshi sent a letter seeking one-month time for submitting fresh challan in the NICL scam case before the court. In the plea for contempt of court, the petitioner contended that the Qureshis request was just intervention in the proceedings and a letter had been dispatched to the court for the first time in the history. Meanwhile, Allied Bank branch managers Rizwan Bhatti and Khalil Ahmad filed a petition seeking their post-arrest bail. Their counsel contended that his clients had not committed any offence in accordance with the FIRs lodged in connection with the NICL scam case. He said that the investigation officer tried to implicate his clients without fulfilling the mandatory requirements of conducting inquiry. He prayed to the court that his clients might be released till final verdict in the case. The judge dismissed the both the petitions after reserving the verdict for an hour following the arguments. During last hearing, the court received a letter from Qureshi, seeking one-month time for submitting fresh challan after reinvestigation in the case. PML-Q leader Moonis Elahis counsel argued that most of the main prosecution witnesses had denied recording of their statements against Moonis on account of which their client may kindly be granted acquittal in the scam.
