OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - The Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan has decided to reduce ghee and oil rates by Rs3 per kg at all its shops to Rs145 per kg from earlier Rs148 per kg while its open market rate is hovering around Rs160 to Rs180 per kg. A manager at the USC outlet on Mozang Road said that this decision was made at a Utility Stores Corporation meeting held in Lahore with Ch Parvez Elahi, senior federal minister in the chair. He said that the USC is providing sugar for Rs55 per kg while it is being sold in Ramazan bazaars at Rs68 per kg while in the open market its rate is up to Rs78 per kg. It is to be noted that the unavailability of sugar at almost all Sasta Ramazan Bazaars has further increased the woes of the masses, as they failed to purchase subsidised sugar at Rs68 per kg. He said that sugar was available at some of the Ramazan bazaars but till noon and that was also being offered to the customers not more than one kg. He claimed that have enhanced their stock of sugar to facilitate the customers. Talking about the meeting he said that it expressed overall satisfaction at the results of the Utility Stores Ramadan initiative of providing essential items at subsidized prices. The concerned officials were also directed to make special arrangements for Eid shopping at the Utility Stores outlets. It was also decided to pay an additional one month salary to all Utility Stores employees for their successful Ramazan performance and record sales. In the meeting the corporation was asked to ensure maximum availability of all essential items during the last 10 days of Ramazan for the convenience of its customers, he added.
