OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the Yellow Cab Scheme is a revolutionary step of the Punjab government, which will not only help eliminate poverty but will also promote local industry as well as provide better transport facilities to the masses. Like the Aashiyana Housing Scheme, balloting of the YCS will also be held in a most transparent manner and the Aashiyana will be adopted as a 'model for scrutinising the particulars of the applicants. The balloting of the Yellow Cab Scheme will be held at all divisional headquarters and in the first phase, balloting will be held on August 29 in Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan and Rawalpindi divisions while in the second phase in other three divisions on September 7 whereas in remaining three divisions on September 10. Distribution of vehicles will be started from October 10, he mentioned, while presiding over a meeting regarding the YCS here on Monday. Minister Law Rana Sanaullah Khan, Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Chief Secretary, Secretaries of Excise & Taxation, Planning & Development and Finance, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board, President Bank of Punjab and representatives of Suzuki Motors also attended the meeting. Addressing the meeting, the CM said that Punjab government was implementing a comprehensive programme for elimination of poverty and unemployment in the province and various projects were being executed in this regard and billions of rupees had been allocated for these projects. He said the projects of provision of laptops to one lakh male and female students, loans on soft terms and distribution of 20,000 Cabs for jobs were also included enabling the educated youth of the province to stand on their own feet. Besides provision of job opportunities to the youth, reliable and best transport facilities would also be available to the masses through the Cab Scheme. People have taken keen interest in this scheme and 67,879 applications have been received for these vehicles throughout the province of which, 2050 applications from women. A large number of people belonging to rural districts have given applications for Yellow Cab. Keeping in view the interest of the people in Bolan vehicles, quota of Bolan vehicles has been enhanced from 20 per cent to 40 per cent whereas 60 per cent vehicles will be Mehran. Quota of 40 per cent vehicles has been allocated for 31 per cent population of Southern Punjab, he said, while reiterating that transparency was the hallmark of the Punjab government and all matters of the Cab Scheme would also be completed in a most transparent manner.
