OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - The martyrdom day (Youm-i-Shahadat) of Hazrat Ali (RA), the fourth caliph of Islam, was observed with religious and traditional zeal on Monday. Observed under strict security, the event remained peaceful against the backdrop of the last years suicide attacks near Karbala Gamay Shah. Several majalis and conferences were held in various parts of the province including Lahore to highlight the achievements of Islams great soldier, leader, thinker and philosopher, besides taking out Tazia processions. The traditional Tazia Alam procession in the provincial metropolis in connection with the Day was taken out from Mubarak Haveli inside Mochi gate early in the morning, which culminated at Karbala Gamay Shah in the evening after passing through its traditional route. The route of the procession included Imambargah Ghulam Ali Shah, Chowk Nawab Sahab, Mochi Gate, Lal Khoo, Fazal Haveli, Takia Nathay Shah, Koocha Shian, Chuhatta Mufti Baqar, Old Kotwali, Kashmiri Bazar, Dabbi Bazar, Sunehri masjid, Paniwala Talab, Chowk Nogaza, Chawk Tarannum Cinema, Chowk Tibbi, Bazar Hakeeman, Chowk Novelty, Mohalla Jogian, Oonchi Masjid and Bhaati Gate. Keeping in view the last year suicide blasts near Karbala Gamay Shah on Youm-i-Ali, Punjab government and district administration had taken stringent security measures for the procession as good number of police personnel were deployed on the route and other sensitive places. The policemen had also been deputed on the rooftops of the buildings along side the route, while no person was allowed to stand and watch from the rooftops and balconies in a bid to ensure strict security to avert gruesome incident occurred last year. Different seminars and conferences held at various imambargahs including Jamia Al-Muntazir Model Town, Imambargah Mubarak Begum Bhaati Gate, Kirshan Nagar, Lytton Road. While, programmes in connection with the Day began with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by a description of the invaluable services rendered by Hazrat Ali (RA) for the cause of Islam and historical events which led to his martyrdom. Sermons by zakerin paid tributes to the qualities and achievements of Hazrat Ali (RA) at various programmes of Youm-i-Ali, besides urging the people identifying the elements which played evil role during Hazrat Ali (RA) days to pitch brother against brother in a bid to weaken the Muslim Ummah and defaming the Islam. They also urged upon the faithful to play their proactive role to counter such evil elements among their ranks following the path of Hazrat Ali (RA). Meanwhile, the processions across Punjab and the provincial capital were led by leading zakerin and religious leaders, while different groups of mourners and noha khawans paid tributes to the fourth caliph of Islam during the procession by conducting flagellation (matam) and reciting nohas. Moreover, volunteers and doctors remained with ambulances remained with the procession to provide first aid to the mourners at the spot. The procession culminated at Karbala Gamay Shah around 5:30 pm where the participants had their and offered nimaz. It may be mentioned that various other organizations also held meetings to commemorate the Day and highlight the achievements of the Hazrat Ali (RA), while during such programmes the speakers urged the Muslims to follow the footsteps of fourth caliph of Islam to regain the lost grandeur of the Ummah. Meanwhile, DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar met with Shia Ulema and administrators of procession on the occasion of Youm-e-Shahadat-e-Ali (RA) and thanked them on their cooperation with the Lahore police. He said that it has happened for the first time in Pakistan that the procession concluded one hour before Aftari due to cooperation of administrators. The DIG also felicitated police officials and officers on their good performance on Youm-e-Ali (RA). Meanwhile, Secretary Information Mohahi-ud-Din Wani on Monday cancelled the programme of Mehfil-e-Sama of Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture (PILAC) at eleventh hour due to reverence of Youm-e-Ali (R.A). The programme was being organized on 21st Ramadan which is martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali (R.A) at the premises of PILAC. Azadari Council Punjab has demanded of the government to take action against PILAC Director General Fehmeeda Miraza on account of organizing Mehfil Sama on Youm-e-Ali. Azadari Council Punjab chairman Prof Allama Zulfiqar Haidari thanked the Punjab Government for cancellation the program on time. He said that the PILAC DG had hurt the feelings of the Muslims and tried fan religious riots. He demanded strict action against her.
