LAHORE - All the Beat Officers of Lahore Police serving in the provincial metropolis will soon be equipped with android phones, Lahore DIG (Operations) Haider Ashraf said on Saturday.

The technology will help policemen to hunt, identify, and arrest criminals and proclaimed offenders by sharing data online.

The operation wing of the Lahore Police has already compiled complete data and records of criminals and proclaimed offenders within a short span of time.

DIG Haider Ashraf was addressing the monthly crime review meeting of the Model Town police division at the Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh.

The DIG said the basic purpose of such initiatives is to improve the professional capability of Lahore cops. The policemen will also report their daily performance in the beat books.

As a pilot project, the Model Town police division is being equipped with modern technology to improve its working.

The Beat Officers will have to save the photo of an accused in their mobile phone data shortly after the arrest. All the concerned police officers will be updated about the arrests by using a special application installed in the android phones.

CCPO Muhammad Amin Vains, who was also present in the meeting, said the Model Town Nerve Centre will play an important role in elimination of crime.

He said the police department was using all energies to change Thana culture.

From now on, the senior officers will supervise enrolment and movement of officials, response time of calls of 15 Emergency, search operations, snaps checking, ratio of crime and arrests of criminals through the nerve centre. After this pilot project, the system will be introduced in other divisions, he added.
