Seven passengers suffered burns as, the van they aboard caught fire due to gas leakage from its substandard and unapproved LPG cylinder near old Chungi No1 Taunsa Road in the precincts of Sadder police on Saturday.

Talking to The Nation, Investigation Officer Farooq Ahmed said that the van loaded with bags of vegetables and more than 10 passengers aboard, was going to Taunsa City. Near Old Chungi, the gas leaking from itsLPG cylinder caught fire, he added. Seven passengers suffered burns in the incident and all were shifted to Teaching Hospital DG Khan by the personnel of Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122.

However, the Teaching Hospital DG Khan lacks a burn unit for their treatment. Driver of the fled from the site while a case has been registered against the driver namely Shahzad alias Amrish, a resident of Kala and owner Ayub.

The seven victims were identified as Khalid, Allah Wasaya, Ghulam Essa, Ibrahim, Rab Nawaz, Ghulam Haider and Peer Bashir. They are facing many hardships regarding their treatment due to non-availability of a burn unit in the divisional level hospital.
