BAHAWALNAGAR

The administration yesterday seized a vehicle, transporting state-owned medicines worth Rs1 million, for illegal sale to a private medical store in Faisalabad.

The team acted on a tip-off and intercepted the medicines-laden vehicle in front of Rescue 1122 office on Saturday. Two persons were also arrested and the A Division Police registered a case against them.

DCO Bahawalnagar Syed Haider Iqbal got a tip off that state-owned medicines from a warehouse of the EDO Health’s office will be transported to a private medical store in Faisalabad. He was informed that the medicines would be transported through a private vehicle (LOT-2121).

At which the DCO alerted officials to thwart the theft attempt. The AC along with a team intercepted the vehicle in front of Rescue 1122 office and seized medicine worth Rs1 million. The officials also arrested two men identified as Ghulam Mustafa, son of Ghulam Hussain and Muhammad Aslam, son of Noor Muhammad. The DCO has constituted a team under the supervision of the EDO Health to probe the ‘theft’ in 24 hours.

It is yet to be ascertained as to who ‘actually’ is behind the scam. However, there are ‘reports’ that two storekeepers — Bashir Ahmad and Muhammad Sadiq, three watchmen — Muhammad Ashraf, Faiz Ahmad and Maqsood Ahmad, sanitary worker Nazim and a naib qasid Irshad Ahmad are involved in the ‘theft’ and illegal sale of state-owned medicines.
