GUJRAT - Deputy Prime Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi has claimed that cycle takes the rider to destination while 'brainless' lion has rendered prosperous Punjab (bankrupt) by hitting it with paws.

Addressing the inauguration of KFC outlet and talking to media here on Saturday, the deputy prime minister recalled that his government had established industrial estates in the province to eliminate unemployment and launched mega projects to attract foreign investment.

He said that cycle would remain PML-Q's electoral symbol in the upcoming general elections.

He said that the lion with first paw hit, shelved the projects his government had initiated and another hit of paws wasted and plundered billions of rupees through schemes like Daanish Schools, Sasti Roti Scheme, Yellow Cab Scheme, Mechanical Tandoor, Ashiana Housing Scheme and pushed the province to the verge of bankruptcy. Ch Parvaiz Elahi maintained that as the Punjab CM, he had launched several projects and programmes for progress and development of the province. "My mission was to eliminate unemployment from the province and for the purpose industrials were established like Sunder Industrial Estate, Faisalabad Garments City and industrial estates in Multan," he enumerated, adding that foreign companies were lured into investment in Punjab which also benefitted the local industry.

The Deputy PM averred that the N-League should not be happy over success in recent bye-elections, adding that Sharif Brothers would come to know their worth in the general elections. The masses will elect us on the basis of our performance and visionary policies which people still remember," he added.

The former chief minister said that his government had established 140 centre for education and training of deaf, dumb special children, provided them education with free transport and several other special incentives, established Child Protection Bureau for the child beggars, whatever we did for the well-being and welfare of the people we did that with proper, planning and deliberations, set up cardiology hospitals in view of rising heart ailments in the province," he pointed out, adding that due to the vindictive attitude of the PML-N, Wazirabad Cardiology hospital could not be made functional so far.

He said that as the chief minister he had allocated funds for the blind cricket team and after three years, this team gave Pakistan the gift of World Cup and the state-of-the-art Gujrat University was also established during his tenure.

Ch Ghulam Rasool, Muhammad Rafiq Rangoonwala and Ch Naveed Akbar also spoke while MPA Abdullah Yousuf, Khalid Asghar Ghural, Imran Masood, Mian Haroon Masood, Ch Parvaiz Pagganwala and Najeeb Ashraf Cheema were prominent among those who were present on the occasion.
