LAHORE – The Punjab Ombudsman on Saturday directed the Lahore Development Authority and Wasa to amend the laws for extending the facility of reimbursement to employees and pensioners dependent on insulin.

The ombudsman issued directives on the complaint of former Wasa director Salahuddin Qureshi stating that as per the government instructions on July 15, 2010, the pensioners suffering from diseases of cancer, diabetes, TB, kidney transplantation, lever transplantation, heart surgery and hepatitis were entitled but not the regular user of insulin.

The outdoor patients who suffered from diseases like Hepatitis B&C were entitled to reimbursement in lieu of medical allowance. The insulin-dependent patients like the complainant Salahuddin Qureshi, were not covered under the rules. As per the complainant Qureshi, a retired WASA Director, as per the government instructions dated July 15, 2010, the pensioners suffering from specific diseases like cancer, diabetes, TB, kidney transplantation, lever transplantation and heart surgery and hepatitis were entitled but not the regular user of insulin.
